Police: Nassau Man Caught Trying To Pick Up Fraudulently Purchased Package

A suspect has been charged after a victim reported his identity had been stolen to fraudulently pay for a package at a UPS Long Island location, authorities said.

Tracy Hammond of Hempstead, 49, was arrested after he allegedly used a stolen identity and credit card to purchase a package at the United States Postal Service.

The 52-year-old male victim called the UPS facility in Uniondale to report the suspected identity theft, according to Nassau County Police.

After a subsequent police investigation, detectives intercepted and arrested 49-year-old Tracy Hammond, of Hempstead, when he arrived at the location to pick up the package.

Police said that forged documents bearing the victim's name were found on Hammond's person, along with several fraudulent driver's licenses and credit cards.

Hammond was charged with the felonies of first-degree identity theft and six counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
